Disclaimer & Terms of Use

Last updated:

Please read this page carefully before using TakeHome. By accessing or using this website and its calculators, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the terms below. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

1. Not tax, legal, accounting, or financial advice

TakeHome and all calculators, explanations, comparisons, articles, FAQs, and related materials on this site are provided solely for general educational and informational purposes.

Nothing on this site constitutes tax advice, legal advice, accounting advice, financial advice, investment advice, or a recommendation to take (or refrain from taking) any action. We are not your tax advisor, CPA, enrolled agent, attorney, broker, or fiduciary.

You should not rely on TakeHome as a substitute for personalized advice from a qualified professional who understands your full situation. Before making employment, relocation, compensation, tax-filing, or other financial decisions, verify figures with your employer or payroll provider, official IRS and state tax agency publications, and licensed professionals as appropriate.

2. Estimates only — accuracy is not guaranteed

All results are approximate estimates. Real paychecks and year-end tax liability can differ materially because of factors we may omit, simplify, or model incompletely, including without limitation:

  • Your complete Form W-4 elections, multiple jobs, spouse income, dependents, and credits
  • Employer-specific benefits, garnishments, union dues, equity compensation, bonuses, and other pay types
  • Local, city, county, school-district, or other non-state taxes (except limited optional NYC simplification where noted)
  • Alternative minimum tax, phaseouts, itemized deductions, and other special federal or state rules
  • Nonresident / part-year resident sourcing, reciprocal agreements, and multi-state withholding
  • Rounding differences, mid-year rate changes, and timing of contributions

Withholding mode approximates what may leave a paycheck under a simplified method; it is not a full recreation of IRS Publication 15-T worksheets or every state employer withholding table. Annual estimate mode is a rough year-end style sketch using simplified assumptions (such as standard deduction paths) and may diverge from both withholding and your actual filed return.

3. Limited geographic and feature coverage

TakeHome currently focuses on selected U.S. federal rules and a limited set of states. States or localities marked as not modeled, simplified, or unsupported may show incomplete results (for example, federal and FICA only). Always read on-screen warnings and our Methodology page.

Tax law and administrative guidance change. Tables and logic are maintained for a stated tax year target and may lag official updates. You are responsible for confirming that any figure remains appropriate for your tax year and jurisdiction.

4. No warranties

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT AND CALCULATORS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, RELIABILITY, OR AVAILABILITY.

We do not warrant that results will match your employer’s payroll system, a tax-preparation product, an IRS or state calculator, or your final tax return. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

5. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, TAKEHOME AND ITS OPERATORS, CONTRIBUTORS, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, INCOME, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SITE OR RELIANCE ON ANY ESTIMATE OR CONTENT, WHETHER BASED IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SITE SHALL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US $100) OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US (IF ANY) FOR THE SPECIFIC SERVICE GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.

6. Privacy and your inputs

For the current MVP, paycheck calculations are designed to run in your browser. We do not intend for ordinary calculator form inputs (such as salary amounts you type) to be uploaded to our servers solely for the purpose of performing that calculation.

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand aggregated visits, including page paths, referring sources, device and approximate location information derived from technical signals. We use this information to improve the site; we do not send calculator salary inputs as analytics event properties. Vercel processes this information under its Privacy Policy (https://vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy). Standard web operations may also involve technical logs, security tooling, cookies or similar technologies for preferences (such as language or theme), and hosting infrastructure. Do not enter sensitive personal data beyond what you are comfortable using in a browser-based educational tool. If our data practices change (for example, optional accounts or server-side features), we will update this notice and related policies accordingly.

7. Third-party sources and links

References to IRS publications, Social Security Administration figures, state departments of revenue, or other agencies are for orientation only. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by those agencies unless we expressly say so.

Links to third-party sites are provided for convenience. We are not responsible for their content, policies, or availability.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the site, including by attempting to disrupt service, scrape in an abusive manner that degrades performance, reverse engineer in violation of law, or use the calculators to provide regulated professional advice to others as if it were certified output from TakeHome.

You are solely responsible for how you use and present any results you obtain from the site.

9. Changes to the site and these terms

We may update calculators, content, branding, and this Disclaimer & Terms of Use at any time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision of this notice. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

We may suspend or discontinue features without liability where permitted by law.

10. Governing considerations

This site is operated with a primary focus on U.S. users and U.S. tax concepts for educational illustration. Consumer protection and other mandatory laws of your place of residence may grant you rights that this notice cannot override.

If any provision of this notice is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.

11. Questions

For questions about this Disclaimer & Terms of Use, or about how a specific calculator is intended to work, please review the Methodology page first. Product and policy contact details may be added here as the service matures; until then, treat this page and the Methodology page as the authoritative descriptions of scope and limitations.
